MUSICAL THEATRE CHOREOGRAPHERS
Northern Virginia Performing Arts (NOVAPA) is seeking creative, organized, and student-centered Choreographers for youth musical-theatre productions at our Leesburg, Virginia location.
The Choreographer will develop and teach production-appropriate choreography that advances the story, supports the director’s artistic vision, and allows young performers at different experience levels to grow and succeed.
Responsibilities:
Create original, age-appropriate choreography for assigned musical numbers.
Collaborate with the Director, Musical Director, Production Manager, and other production-team members.
Attend required production meetings and rehearsals.
Teach choreography clearly and efficiently to children and teenagers.
Modify choreography based on performer ability, safety, staging, costumes, scenery, and available rehearsal time.
Provide appropriate movement opportunities for featured performers and ensembles.
Prepare choreography before scheduled rehearsals.
Review and clean musical numbers throughout the rehearsal process.
Maintain accurate notes or recordings of completed choreography.
Communicate student, attendance, safety, or scheduling concerns to the appropriate NOVAPA administrator.
Attend technical rehearsals, dress rehearsals, and performances as required.
Maintain professional boundaries and follow all NOVAPA child-safety and conduct policies.
Refrain from making unauthorized promises concerning casting, featured roles, refunds, schedules, or policy exceptions.
Qualifications:
Choreography, dance-instruction, or musical-theatre experience.
Experience teaching children and/or teenagers.
Knowledge of musical-theatre styles and storytelling through movement.
Ability to teach students with different skill and experience levels.
Strong preparation, communication, and classroom-management skills.
Dependability and ability to meet production deadlines.
Degree or formal training in dance, musical theatre, education, or a related field is preferred but not required when supported by professional experience.
Evening and weekend availability is required.
All selected candidates must complete NOVAPA’s background-screening process, child-safety training, and required onboarding before beginning work.

Compensation: A stipend of at no less than $1,000 but based on education, position, leadership responsibility, and any certifications you have obtained.
