Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated Truck Driver Trainer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have expertise in various types of commercial driving and possess excellent communication skills to educate and train aspiring truck drivers.

Responsible for teaching courses and assessing learning outcomes in the assigned discipline of the Truck Driving Program.

This is a full-time, daytime position, Monday through Friday. Instructor will primarily be assigned to Muscatine Community College; however, based on program needs and student enrollment, they may also be required to teach at the Blong Technology Center (BTC), located at 8500 Hillandale Road, Davenport, IA 52806. If travel is required, transportation between sites will be provided using Eastern Iowa Community Colleges (EICC) vehicles.

Must have current driver’s license with CDL, and pass pre-employment background check

Required Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED is required.

• Current CDL license and a certified medical card are required with 2 years industry experience as a driver in the trucking industry.

• Computer skills are required

• Familiarity of DOT log procedures and CDL industry regulations.

Preferred Qualifications

• Teaching/training experience preferred but not required

Physical Demands

• Ability to use a variety of hand tools and job specific tools

• Lifting up to 50 pounds to a height of three feet

• Perform all normal and expected duties of a skilled trade

• Lifting, kneeling, squatting, climbing, crawling, stooping, turning/twisting, balancing, reaching and handling with varying frequencies

• Frequent lifting and carrying, pushing, or pulling objects

Typical Duties and Responsibilities

• Instruct courses in accordance with outcomes identified in established course outcomes. Teaching assignments may include varying delivery formats and methods.

• Assure that student outcomes are achieved in each course.

• Provide over-the-road driving instruction and training to CDL students, ensuring safe and effective learning experiences aligned with program standards.

• Utilize instructor vehicle controls to maintain safety during behind-the-wheel training sessions.

• Incorporate the use of CDL driving simulators to enhance student learning and reinforce safe driving practices.

• Evaluate and record student performance and achievement on a regular basis and provide regular student feedback.

• Coordinate student training and meets with students as necessary.

• Refer students to Academic Support and Student Services as needed and meet recommended student/instructional accommodations as required.

• Assist college in the recruitment and retention of students.

• Maintain professionalism in a instructional environment.

• Maintain a safe environment for students and EICC staff.
