CAPS STEMHEROES Program (Paid Guest Teacher Fellowship Program)

Explore a Career in Education with College Achieve Public Schools

Locations: Plainfield, Paterson, Asbury Park

College Achieve Public Schools (CAPS) is seeking college seniors and STEM graduates who are interested in exploring a career in teaching through a paid classroom shadowing experience.

Selected participants will work alongside experienced teachers in CAPS classrooms twice per week from the week of September 21 through the week of December 4, earning $20 per hour while gaining valuable, hands-on experience in the teaching profession.

As part of the program, CAPS will also assist participants in obtaining a New Jersey Substitute Teaching Credential, providing an opportunity to gain additional classroom experience throughout the school year.

Participants who demonstrate strong potential may be considered for a full-time teaching position and, if hired, may be eligible for alternative route teacher certification sponsorship through College Achieve Public Schools.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications

The ideal candidate will:

  • Be enrolled full-time as a senior at an accredited four-year college or university or have graduated from an accredited four-year institution with a STEM degree.
  • Be majoring in a STEM field or in education with a specialization in a STEM subject (for current college students).
  • Have a cumulative GPA of 2.75 or higher.
  • Possess, or be willing to obtain, a New Jersey Substitute Teaching Credential.
  • Demonstrate a passion for working with children and a commitment to student success.
  • Be highly motivated, eager to learn, and interested in pursuing a career in education.
