Welcome to our amazing Faculty & Staff!
We believe strongly in the concept of “Career Everywhere.” While the Launch Center can offer helpful advice and resources to any student, we know we can’t do this work alone! That’s why we are invested in partnering across campus to ensure that every student has access to the information and relationships they need to find success, whatever that means for them. You are the expert in your field – our goal is to lift your load in areas where students can come to us for guidance instead of you, not to replace the excellent, personal work you do with them every day.
We will add more resources and insights here over time as we go, including guidance on seamlessly incorporating career readiness competencies into curriculum, writing effective and equitable job descriptions for on-campus positions and internships, and tips on when to plug the Launch Center into your courses. Thank you for all you do to support students as they launch into life after SVU!

Handshake is a powerful career services platform used to help students connect with job and internship opportunities, employer events, and career development resources. You can stay informed and help support students in their job and internship searches by accessing this tool.
Sign up with your SVU email address – we’ll approve it, then you can input preferences similar to what your students would search for so you can see what they do.

Handshake allows you to do more than just see what students do – you can also directly and easily post your part-time, on-campus job and internship opportunities on the platform, where they will be tagged to make them easy for students to find. Go to the “Getting Started on Handshake” section of the page linked here for help making this happen.

The National Association of Colleges and Employers (NACE) has identified 8 critical competencies of career-ready graduates. These are all skills our graduates consistently develop, but need to learn to verbalize. They can be incorporated into learning objectives and curriculum to help students understand the relevance and applicability of what they learn – now and throughout their lives. This page introduces the competencies. Reach out to the Launch Center for further discussion on incorporating them.

See some simple ways faculty can partner with the Launch Center and support students in applying their excellent SVU education to a future meaningful life and career.

This page defaults to filter to SVU-hosted events, including career fairs, employer and grad school info sessions, and workshops. You can toggle those filters off to view additional events available to students via Handshake with organizations around the country.

If you need support while helping students navigate their career development journey, we’re here to assist you. Whether you have questions about Handshake, need guidance on resources, want to invite us to class, or would like to collaborate on a student success effort, don’t hesitate to reach out.
